photo

As June 5 -- World Environment Day -- drew near, Sharp held its first Sharp Environmental Forum in Shanghai, China. After Corporate Director Nobuyuki Sugano opened the May 31, 2007 event, Group General Manager Hiroshi Morimoto of the Environmental Protection Group explained Sharp's environmental strategy of aiming to become an environmentally advanced company. The event also featured panel displays and video footage to give attendees a clearer picture of Sharp's environmental protection policies and efforts.

The forum was held at the Shanghai municipal government building. Approximately 30 people attended, including national and municipal-level government officials and members of the press. A discussion session generated a lively exchange of opinions on topics that included the recycling carried out by Japanese consumer electronics manufacturers and Sharp's environmentally friendly facilities, such as the solar power system installed at the Kameyama Plant. Chinese environmental specialists gave their views on environmental policies and efforts in China. All in all, the forum gave everyone in attendance an opportunity to deepen their understanding of environmental protection.
