From March 3 to 6, P.T. Sharp Semiconductor Indonesia (SSI), P.T. Sharp Electronics Indonesia (SEID), and Sharp (Phils.) Corporation (SPC) conducted cross audits.
A cross audit involves an exchange of internal auditors among Sharp sites, with each checking the state of environmental compliance at the site he or she is auditing. Sharp cross audits began in July 2006 in China and Malaysia.
Bases in Indonesia and the Philippines have incorporated the Sharp Environmental Management System (S-EMS)* under which they thoroughly control waste and chemicals. These cross audits were aimed at reinforcing the S-EMS to further tighten control measures and thus reduce environmental risk.
Participating auditors commented that auditing another Sharp base provided a good opportunity to gain new knowledge and raise awareness.
Sharp plans to expand cross audits to include other bases in Asia and Europe.

* S-EMS: An environmental management system based on ISO 14001 that incorporates Sharp's own environmental policies and compliance with laws and regulations.
