Healthy Sharp 21 Program

Healthy Sharp 21, a comprehensive health-promotion program in Japan, makes voluntary participation in fitness programs (primary prevention) and individual guidance based on data (proactive secondary prevention) the cornerstone of its activities.

Company-Wide “Team Walking Challenge”

In fiscal 2006, Sharp organized a company-wide “Team Walking Challenge” in Japan as a proactive health support activity under the theme of building healthy exercise habits. A total of 6,187 individuals on 631 teams (about 20% of all employees) participated.

Specific Programs for Mental Health Care

○Face-to-face counseling at main sites by company counselors or medical specialists.
○Phone or in-person counseling through specialized outside organizations.
○Interview-based mental stress assessments for employees who have experienced major changes in their environment, such as relocation associated with job transfer, transfer not accompanied by family, and job promotion.
○Distribution of handbooks or manuals on mental health.
○Awareness campaigns such as educational seminars for managers by specialists, mental health seminars, and providing information via the corporate intranet.
○Support programs when returning to work after a leave, in cooperation with company physicians, the department the employee is affiliated with, and the General Affairs Department.
