In November 2003, Sharp Japan devised a "Disaster Preparation Plan for a Major Earthquake," and is currently engaged in ongoing development of concrete disaster preparation measures based on this document. Needless to say, human life must be given the highest priority in these measures. The highest objective of this policy is, first of all, to ensure the safety of Sharp's employees and their families, then to preserve Sharp's plants, facilities and equipment and maintain operations, thereby fulfilling our role as a member of the local community (being a good corporate citizen).

Sharp Japan has set up a "Disaster Preparation Plan" and has distributed copies to families all employees and their families. This plan provides guidelines on actions and initial responses to take in case of a major earthquake or other disaster in Japan.
Sharp Japan also has distributed protective gear ,such as helmets, gloves, dust masks, and dust hoods to all employees. To ensure that all employees are ready to take proper measures when a disaster does occur, Sharp holds mandatory disaster drills and firefighting training at all its facilities, where all employees try on the protective items.

Sharp Japan is distributing satellite phones to key business sites to provide a reliable means of communication during a large-scale disaster. This will ensure that information on the safety of employees and the extent of damage to facilities can be exchanged between business sites if the public telephone network cannot be used.
Sharp will continue to build systems that enable the company to fulfill its corporate social responsibility (CSR): such systems include the Business Continuity Plan (BCP), which limits the impact of a large-scale disaster by restoring business activities to normal as quickly as possible.
