


In April 2005, Sharp Laboratories of America, Inc. (SLA) and Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas (SMA) held a new type of Earth Day event: the Goof Ball Race. Employees and their families bought souvenir goof balls (sponge balls), which they raced down a sloping road on the Sharp premises, in the process raising $1,500 for the American Cancer Society.


Every year, Sharp Malaysian bases* take part in as many environmental and social contribution activities as possible.
Each base works side by side with local citizens in cleanup, tree planting, and recycling activities, as well as taking part in environmentally related local events.

In November 2005, Sharp Thebnakorn Co. Ltd. (STCL) held an Environmental Charity Day, donating money for the repair of local temples, in addition to planting trees and cleaning up around the temples, as part of the company's environmental and social contribution activities.


In November 2005, P.T. Sharp Electronics Indonesia (SEID) began donating Plasmacluster Ion air purifiers to hospitals designated by the government to treat patients of bird flu in response to the growing number of cases of this disease. As of March 2006, SEID had donated 44 air purifiers to 15 hospitals in 14 cities in Indonesia.


In April 2005, to celebrate its tenth anniversary and the achievement of 4 million copiers produced, Sharp Office Equipments (Changshu) Co., Ltd. (SOCC) showed its appreciation to the local community by donating a copier to an elementary school and Junior high school, and Japanese books to a university. The employees, the labor union, and company management also joined together to present daily necessities to an orphanage. SOCC continued these donations to the university and the child welfare facility in fiscal 2006.


In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Southern US. Through major American charity organizations, the Sharp Group gave about 50 million yen in monetary donations and other forms of support.
