An employee retiring for child-care reasons is guaranteed to be reemployed by the time the child enters elementary school (by the last day of March after the child turns 6 years old). |
| Reduced working hours for child-care reasons |
During pregnancy or until the child enters elementary school (until the last day of March after the child turns 6 years old), an employee can shorten his or her workday by up to 2 hours (in 30-minute increments). |
| Short-term leave for wife's child-birth |
An employee can take a total of 5 days (paid) leave starting in the week before the expected day of birth and ending 4 weeks after the baby is born. |
| Childcare leave system |
An employee can take leave until the last day of the first March after the child turns 1 year old, or until the child is 1 year and 6 months old, whichever period is longer. |
| Leave to help children adjust to nurseries |
An employee can take up to 1 month's leave until the last day of the first April after the child turns 1 year old, or until the child is 1 year and 7 months old, whichever period is longer. |
| Child-care time |
Until the child is 1 year old, the parent can take up to 1 hour a day (in 30-minute increments) of (paid) leave. |
| Childcare support system |
An employee can work flexible hours until the last day of March during the child's third year of elementary school. |
| Subsidies to employees to pay for in-home nursing care |
An employee receives 14 subsidy payments during the period from start of pregnancy until 9 weeks (10 weeks for multiple births) after birth, and 14 subsidy payments during the period from the start of maternity leave or child-care leave until the child enters elementary school. For in-home nursing care, an employee receives 14 subsidy payments. Each payment is a maximum of 5,000 yen a day. |
| Multi purpose leave |
An employee can take up to 8 days (paid) leave a year for things like taking care of ill or elderly family members, special family days, self education courses, volunteer work, and fertility care. |
