Production processes at the Kameyama Plant consume up to 12,300 tons per day, but by using wastewater purification technology based on microorganisms, all of the water can be captured and recycled. In addition, the plant has adopted an Organic Sludge Reduction System that uses the powerful oxidizing ability of ozone to reduce excess organic sludge and make it possible to curb its generation entirely. This significantly lowers the amount of sludge discharged from wastewater treatment facilities.
In addition, peat harvested from bogs in Hokkaido is used as a bio-filter to control offensive odors in wastewater that contains chemical substances.
In May 2006, these efforts at the Kameyama Plant, Sharp won the Economy, Trade and Industry Minister's Prize at the 8th Japan Water Award sponsored by the Japan River Association.
